Runner Up finish at Kettle Moraine!
The men had an awesome Homecoming week that capped off with a strong 2nd place showing at Kettle Moraine only behind #2 ranked in the state Hartford. Our goal for the week was to reflect our races off of our training, and coming off a great Tuesday effort allowed them to go perform some great race plans. Our guys did great overall moving up or keeping hold of positioning on the tough Nagawaukee course. Kicking off the meet was our two varsity races. Caleb got his first varsity racing experience and for the second week in a row worked great along side Preston to finish with identical times and a 22 and 23 place finish! Leading the 4-8 race and almost coming back to finish runner up at the end was Joseph who finished 3rd and scored as our 5th man overall. In the 1-4 race, Elijah, Ethan and John planned to run smart early together, remain steady through 2 miles and then move the third mile. They moved up a ton and collectively dropped 9 race positions from the year prior! Kai finished 13th overall with his plan to mix it up front again this week after experimenting leading the race last week. Collectively the team dropped nearly two minutes off of last year's time to help them take 2nd and take home our first trophy at this historic meet since winning it in 2013! Congrats to all the guys for trusting the race plans this week and delivering a positive team day headed into our off week. Pretty neat last week that the emerging varsity was the final race of the day! This allowed a role reversal where our varsity guys could really go nuts out on the course for them. Brody took charge up front early and ran the strongest race of his career to finish 5th overall! Iker went out this week with Ethan M sticking close behind throughout. They finished 26th and 27th. Henry also got out strong and picked up our final medalist position of the day finishing 44th. Damien battled as our 5th man in 54th. Shout out to Nate SP and Payson for dropping huge personal bests! It was awesome watching all of our guys out on the course supporting each other. Nate dropped nearly two minutes and Payson almost a minute! I'd like to recap our team athletes of the week as picked by the previous week's winner! Palmyra - Kai Bruner (Chosen by Elijah Sayeg). B&G - Joseph Ventura Betz - Henry Roemer. The men have an off weekend of racing this week. We do have one of our traditional runs this week with tomorrow's run to Lake Michigan. We will stagger the start (drop off athletes nearer to the destination) based on where their long run distance is at. Do plan for this to go a bit later as it depends on traffic when we drive them back after. It is usually around 6 p.m. we return. If this is too late for anyone just let the coaches know and we can assign a run near campus! We will practice Monday through Friday after school this week. The weekend won't have a team meet up but likely an assigned run for veterans. We will come back on a short week racing the following Thursday October 10th at Mccarty Park! Photos are October 3rd! These are head shot photos only and we will ask guys to bring their team jacket. We will likely share the same style for the photos and share the jackets as needed for each photo.

Men 3rd of 25 in Varsity, 5th of 25 in Emerging Varsity
The men's varsity team finished 3rd of 25 teams, and were just one point ahead of another sectional contender Pewaukee. Every place counts! The emerging varsity team had a strong day to finish 5th among the 25 team field! In the first race, Caleb Jensen and Preston Plier found each other early and delivered on our goal to pack up together early in the race. They ran the whole race together and helped each other to strong races and season best performances. Brody Kaminski bounced back from last week and took a step toward forward, finishing as our 3rd scorer. Rounding out the scoring were two men who put in their best weeks of the season so far, Damien Sheridan and Iker Robles. Both ran personal best times on the hot day. In the varsity race, Kai Bruner took a significant lead through the 1 mile mark, testing the waters of leading a race and gaining a ton of experience up front. He came back a bit but did a great job once again holding a low scoring position to finish 7th overall. Ethan Plier continued his consistent racing finishing in a medal spot and 20th overall as our number two scorer. Coming in together were Bronko and Koda Bruner. Stepping up mid race when realizing he was scoring, Joseph Ventura came back into the race to hold on as our 5th man and help us edge fourth place by one point. The team did a great job last week with the hot weather, never complaining and embracing the opportunity to put in great work together. They carried that into a nice performance Saturday. Let's keep building into a great week. I'd like to recap our team athletes of the week as picked by the previous week's winner! It wasn't always pretty, but the men secured victory at the Druckrey Invite for the 2nd consecutive season! After the JV set the tone for victory, it became a close team battle in the second race but the men held on to take the win there as well. In any season, challenges arise that the team must overcome. This past week definitely brought some challenges, at practices with a string of minor injuries, aches and pains, and also at the meet with some unpredictable things that the team responded well to! The team did great to overcame the adversity to secure victories in both races on Saturday. Putting themselves in a great position early, Brody led the team through the mile followed closely behind by Caleb and Ethan M. Shortly after the 2k the team realized Brody was no longer in the race (he's doing ok!), but he got out amazing and really helped our crew get out to a strong position. You could see the guys start to step up and move up in the race knowing they were now scoring a spot higher! The frosh Caleb and Ethan M. led the scoring, while Iker and Henry came rolling in at the finish together, hammering home to help lower the team score! Rounding out the scoring was Damien who moved up great after the halfway point and knowing he had become a scorer for the team. In the varsity race, Kai competed up front the entire race and finished as the top man for a second consecutive week with a 4th place overall finish! Following up in 14th was Ethan P., running another consistent race and building off his Betz performance. The final medalist was Elijah Sayeg who found himself fall back to 20th after looking strong with the group through 2 miles. The good news is he's regaining health and ready to bounce back strong and back up front in the coming weeks. The fourth scorer having a personal best race was Joseph Ventura, who was unsure he wanted to race but got himself in and had a great run! Finishing the scoring this week was John Gruichich who battled... a side cramp! Excited to see him rebound next race and be back up front with the guys where we know he usually is in races. It was very cool to watch our guys celebrate each other. The varsity guys were going nuts for our JV squad and vice versa. I heard many shouting our motto 'For Us' and we are really starting to see it more and more. Embracing no limits and celebrating our teammates successes makes for a great combo for a great team. Looking forward to a great week with guys gaining strength and continuing to build the strongest team. We will also look forward to healthy and happy training!
