Druckery Recap
The varsity team won the invitational in convincing fashion, while the emerging varsity finished runner up! A great weekend for the team. For the past week's focus, we looked to execute some better racing strategy and we did really well being patient earlier and focusing on racing and passing guys. Pack running and moving up in races will continue to be an emphasis toward progress and success for the squad. The first race set a great tone, with our guys moving up spots the whole race! Koda Bruner took the lead at about the 1.5 mile mark and never looked back en route to his first career high school cross country victory! That's three out of our last four meets where a Bruner has claimed an individual title. Preston Plier moved from 4th at the 2 mile mark up to 2nd by the finish to help the men go 1st and 2nd. Brody Kaminski moved up steadily throughout the 5k to finish 7th overall. Our four through seven men improved, closing the gap as well with many moving up and running their best race of the season. Iker and Joel got out much faster, helping them run some great races! The varsity race set up really well, with the team staying patient and together at the mile and through the 2 mile mark. Putting five scorers in the top 22 helped us secure our first win at this invitational since the year 2000! It is great having some young guys make an impact in their first seasons, with Joseph Ventura scoring as the fifth man. These young men will certainly give a boost to the team and help us in championship season. On an individual level, it's important to use the team as strength to keep it fun and know that the guys are family. So if it wasn't a perfect race, it was definitely a great day and it would be boring if there was nothing to improve on from here! This was by far our best race as a team so far, and this week it will be important focus on competing as we head to our sectional course! Let's keep progressing and focusing on each other, everything else is distraction. There's no rush to anything, just get better each day. Where we are is where we are supposed to be, exciting times! 2023 Results Workbook Muskego Invite We will have a sectional preview this weekend on one of our favorite courses. For those new to the team, the sectional is the state qualifying meet held in late October where the top two teams and next five individuals not on those teams advance to the state meet in Wisconsin Rapids! Click here for the meet information this week. The Stullers are hosting pasta this Friday after practice! Thank you, Address: 12765 W. Brentwood Dr. Quick Note As a note for families, the guys are expected to take the bus to and from the meets. I know this week we had a lot of guys looking to leave from the meet. Taking the bus is not just a school rule, but also important for keeping the team together. If there is an emergency or important reason that they have to leave from the meet please communicate in advance and they need to fill out a release form, but this should be a very rare occurrence. Athletes in the program are always expected to be at the entire meet, all races, and the awards. We missed a few guys in the team photo too when they didn't stick by the team, so it is very important!

Big Week - Runathon and Betz Changing the Runathon and race schedule last week pushed us up closer against our home invitational which meant three race level efforts in a span of six days. We are proud of many of the efforts from the team this past week. The runathon saw three men run around 9.7 miles at a 6:10 average mile pace. Three more men averaged 6:30 pace for 9 miles. Very strong efforts coming two days after a strong opening meet! Featuring six state ranked teams, our home meet provided great competition once again. About 40 points separated 7 teams. Not racing quite as well as we would have liked, we still were able to close the gap on Germantown who defeated us quite handily the week prior, reminding the guys the great part of the sport is just being ready in October knowing that each race is a clean slate and things change quick week to week in this sport. Frosh Koda Bruner finished 7th overall and was our 7th man Friday, moving up a ton during the race. Joel Galarza ran over a minute faster than last week and is learning how to race! We look forward to having Joseph back this week after being smart with hopefully a minor flare up on Thursday. JV (Emerging Varsity) Yes, I like to call it emerging varsity because that's how this sport is. Everyone contributes to the team with the energy they bring, and every guy should be working toward being a future scorer on varsity. For some that may be soon, for others it may be months away, but the effort should be toward that. We made the decision to move Kai Bruner to this level for the week. He had a piriformis issue he has been working through which has meant no workouts over a ten day stretch. Kai has done a great job with strength work and was ready to give an effort on Friday, but to keep confidence up and not knowing how he would feel, we chose this route. Things obviously went well, Kai won his second consecutive cross country meet by over 20 seconds, pulling away from the lead pack at about 3k! Preston Plier and Brody Kaminski provided a strong 2nd and 3rd leg, putting our top 3 scorers in the top 32. Adding depth back on this level with Koda, Joseph and Gavin this week will certainly help our team score, but Friday our 4 and 5 were too far back. Give Lincoln credit for hanging tough and moving up to be our 4th man as some of our guys struggled to maintain position. His race gave us 15 less points and helped us hold off a strong Pewaukee team by 3 points. There's definitely more effort to give in practices from some of the guys who struggled at halfway of the race. How we do anything is how we do everything. Varsity Race Got to give Eric some love, he was amped up to go! We talked about taking risks in races and Eric gave it a shot early. We will look for a bit more composure and confidence this week and a smarter start, looking to take those risks mid race as opposed to the first 400 meters. Racing for the team is all about everyone doing their jobs to beat the top 5 from other teams as a collective. Elijah Sayeg placed 10th overall, and our team improved by almost 150 points from last season. Johnny Gruichich and Ethan Plier had HUGE breakthroughs with the Monday runathon and it will translate to the next race. A good reset weekend with an easy recovery run will get all the guys benefitting from the big week and more prepared to compete as we move along this season. Bigger things to come, and I believe this Saturday can be a special one. Results/Runathon Money
I had a blast being able to COACH on Friday! I am getting better at running the invitational and was laser focused on just coaching after set up was all done. Thanks to everyone for understanding the work it takes to put on a meet like that. Love doing it and glad I was able to fully invest in being out with the team once things got running. I know a couple people tried handing me runathon money which I appreciate it! But I did not take it because I would have immediately lost it given all the responsibility I had. Please just bring it Monday as the final day, I am turning it in Tuesday to our AD. Runathon Results 2023 Results Workbook Practice Labor Day! We are practicing at 6:00 p.m. Monday, meet by the weightroom area. School will NOT be open so come dressed to run. Guys can use vehicles to store items. We will be going long so be sure to hydrate and eat well through the day to have a great run. School begins Tuesday which will be an adjustment. Remember good breakfast, good lunch and snacks packed. Coaches will put some small snacks in Coach Dewitt's room as well if guys need to get some calories. Let's make it a great school year! Meet Information We head to Grant Park Saturday! The team has an awesome opportunity here. I will leave it at that. :) Click Here for Lineups/Times and information from the hosts linked From the Hosts: DON’T FORGET THAT WE ARE ASKING EVERYONE (athletes, coaches, parents, & spectators) to bring one non-perishable food item for our local food pantry. It is very important that you remind your parents and fans that they may have to park on city streets if the parking lots in the park are full. This could happen as early as 9:15 am. It is much easier leaving the meet when you park on city streets. There is parking on the west side of Lake Drive. Signs will be posted on Lake Drive to show people how to get to the CC course. The south entrance to the Park by the golf course clubhouse will be closed until 12:30 pm. Seven total medalists (imagine we crop Bronko in to photo) is a testament to the improved top end and depth of the team this year.
Elijah Sayeg claimed his first individual title in cross country, racing smooth and confident up front from the start. The following men also medaled, Frosh Joseph Ventura finished 2nd running 18:22 while Koda Bruner was 3rd running 19:17. Those are very solid starting races and with so much to learn it will be very fun to watch them progress. Congratulations to all five of our freshmen racing their first high school 5k! Soph The Pliers consistent and purposeful summer running leads to a strong season opener. Ethan finished 2nd overall among all frosh/soph in a personal best time, while Preston had a big personal best racing to 8th overall in the race and 6th amongst sophomores. Juniors/Seniors John Gruichich was the second scorer finishing 10th overall and 4th among all juniors. Eric Harvey and Nate Hutter rounded out the scoring, with Nate earning 8th overall for the juniors. Brody Kaminski had an over two minute personal best to start the season after a strong summer of training as well. Although the meet was 'unscored', I was able to combine results and the team finished 2nd overall. Let's keep building and focusing on our standards and our team. Keep improving and running for the team, that's what it is all about. No Limits. The coaches are fired up about this squad. 2023 Results Workbook Week 3 - Runathon Monday, Betz Invitational Friday This Friday at Greenfield Park, we host one of the best meets in Wisconsin. The meet has been running for decades and has always been a favorite amongst many south east WI teams. We will invite some parent help with some minor things such as course help but won't interfere with anyone watching their kids compete and enjoy a great event!! With some school functions starting up including band and freshmen orientation this week, I have proposed starting to practice at our normal 3:15 p.m. school year time a bit earlier than originally planned. I hope this adjustment can work for everyone, and it made sense to move this time since the morning was a conflict for a majority of the team these days.
