Betz Recap - Varsity finish 3rd of 15 teams, JV 6th of 15 Teams
An early focus we have had as a team is winning, by winning for each other, for us. Sending just 5 men to the line for varsity and 6 for JV, courage and determination were necessary in order for the team to find success on the day. For Us was on display all afternoon at our home invite. The Varsity and JV teams both finished with a scoring 5 in the top 34 of the invitational! Finishing 5th as a team, the JV was led by Nate Hutter finishing 8th overall in a strong consistent race, followed close behind by teammates Preston Plier and Brody Kaminski who went 11th and 13th. With the top 3 scorers in, all eyes turned to Iker Robles and Henry Roemer. Iker ran a very even race finishing 32nd after being 31st at the mile mark. Henry started off great in 29th at the mile, but found himself back to 41st at the 2 mile. Knowing he was the 5th man, Henry had one of the best last miles on the team and moved up 7 spots to finish 34th and cap off the team scoring! The varsity squad of 5 lined up and looked to set a good tone early with positioning up front of the race. Kai Bruner rolled from the start, and had the best closing 1.1 on the team with a 5:57 close. Elijah Sayeg paced off of Kai for most of the race and held on to finish 20th. Having a real steady race and coming in just behind Elijah was Ethan Plier in 22nd. Bronko battled well to hold 30th overall, while Koda Bruner took a nice step from last week moving closer to our top 4 and finishing close behind in 34th. The team took 3rd overall behind #2 ranked Homestead and #6 ranked Hamilton. It was our highest finish at our home meet since the 2020 'Mini' Betz version held at the campus course where the team was runner up. You have to go back to 2012 for the last time the team was top 3 at the Greenfield Park version of the meet. This is always a strong invitational, so top 3 here is a great night. We are excited about the day the team had, and excited to build off of it in our journey toward becoming the best teammates and team. Bigger things to come. The freshmen got a cool experience to race in a freshmen only race to kick off the meet! Caleb Jensen was our top finisher, moving from 10th at the mile to 7th overall and earning a medal! Ethan Muelrath had a much improved first mile this week and finished 25th overall. Completing his first ever 5k was Nate Siepe-Pick! Congratulations Nate on the great accomplishment! Payson Vahovick raced determined to finish and also finished his first 5k! Congratulations Payson!
