Track week 3 - March Madness!

We have our own March Madness going on in track!  There will be three meets this week, with many guys racing in just one of them, and a few racing in two because of them being gone for band Saturday or other reasons.  JV Conference is Saturday, and the Tuesday meet we will load up a lot of guys to race in our Tri meet against Tosa East and Kettle Moraine!  Friday, we will have a tune up before Varsity Conference on Tuesday, and a few guys will be racing that day as well.
Understand with that busy schedule and different types of runners, the weekly workouts are aligned to best fit with specific guys and thus we may have multiple workouts or runs occurring.  Coach Hernandez and I will help monitor them, but the effort is always based on YOU!  I read a great quote from the UMBC coach (the 16 seed team that became the first 16 seed to win an ncaa game), "The work you do in the dark will reveal itself in the light."  We don't need to be applauded for every successful run or action, we just need to know we are doing the right thing always, and always putting in 100%.  Put in the positive work and enjoy the journey, and let the results speak for themselves.  EXPECT to run fast, and BELIEVE you can run fast because you all CAN!  With that, remember the most important part of our sport, keep having FUN!

Last week was a great week!  We had 14 distance PR's and some great performances.  All results can be found on the workouts and lineups tab below.  We had a great time with some guys at breakfast after the Saturday practice as well!

Let's be great TODAY!

The power is you guys

Trust the coaches, your teammates, the workouts, the ideas.  Believe in yourself and know that you can run as fast as anyone.  Mold a passionate pursuit for excellence every day, and you can attain incredible success through consistent and positive work.  Set your goals, but realize the success is in The Journey and the power behind the success is you guys.
You have the power to control your efforts each day.  A lot of our training is based on effort and learning to push ourselves to new levels.  As we enter the first week of racing, I want you to take chances, going out after fast times, and maybe even have it backfire.  Trust the training and use your abilities to keep reaching for improvement.  Never fear failure because we will always support each other through the good and the bad.
You have the power to think of others.  Running is an amazing part of our lives, but it's exactly that, "a part" of our lives.  All of us need the support of others and it's okay to ask for help.  Feel safe asking for help, and be sure to offer help to others on our team and outside of the team.  You have the power to run each day, and the power to give back each day.  Even a simple act of kindness each day can change someone in a very positive way.
You have the power to create a direction.  As an example, in the early 1950's, the 4 minute mile used to be deemed an impossible barrier.  Many even concluded that death would occur past a certain speed and that 4 minutes was physically impossible.  It wasn't until 1954 when Roger Bannister broke this mindset by being the first man to break the 4 minute mile.  Just a month later, John Landy beat Bannister's time becoming the second man to break 4.  Since then, there have been over 1,000 men to break 4 in the mile!  This example shows how once the accomplishment occurred, the mindset of possibility completely changed, which allowed others to accomplish the once deemed impossible feat.  The same is true with the goals you currently have and where you can end up.  You need the mindset that Roger Bannister and others have had, knowing that through your positive work you can accomplish amazing things.  Until you have that belief, you will never have that reality.

Week 1 was great!  We had some killer workouts and the team energy was awesome.  We will look to grow on our momentum and keep embracing The Journey!  Guys on the band trip we expect you to run!  There are treadmills and you can always make it happen.  We want you running 40-45 minutes each day you are on site, as well as Wednesday morning before you leave.  We will talk about our plan at practice Monday.

Let's make it a great week 2!
