In week 1 we talked about building selflessness. This is our essence. We want to work toward a selfless team, working together and holding one another accountable to be their very best. To build off of that, we want to get rid of any limitations. As a group, we have no limits to what we can accomplish. Our group embraces discomfort, fuels off the naysayers that can't do what we do, and we go out and do things instead of waiting for things to come to us. Autumn arrives early for cross country runners. August 19th marks our first day of practice, and a sign that soon we will be lining up for our first race of the 2019 season. The warmer air we feel now will soon give way to the cool mornings requiring hats and gloves. A group of 30+ young men will assemble daily, no matter the weather or how they may be feeling that day, all running together toward a common cause of pursuing excellence.
You will want to bookmark our website, and during the season, be sure to check the home page and our blog at least weekly, and more often than that wouldn't be a bad idea. Sunday nights or Monday mornings would be a great time to check as I update typically every Sunday night. Practices are now mandatory. It's more formal than summer and they need to be showing up every day. If there are known possible conflicts, talk to coach well in advance. Excused absences are rare. Our first official practice is Monday at 3:15 p.m., but please come by 2:15 to get a locker. Here's our first two week schedule, First 2 weeks practice Schedule! Please allow for a couple longer days (2.5ish hours) as we establish routines the first week. Run-A-Thon is SATURDAY the 24th! Our biggest week 1 event this year (beside parent/team meeting) is our Run-A-Thon which is happening on Saturday, August 24th. All of the guys on the team are required to attend as it is a practice for the day, and it will be held at the Hale track, kicking off at 5:45 p.m. I'm expecting all the guys to get sponsors and help raise funds for the team, and Children's Hospital. Hopefully all of them have sponsors already. I will post the amount of laps (or miles in the week for the 1 person that can't do the run-a-thon) by the Sunday afternoon following the event. Please return the form and all the collected money by Friday, August 30th! Click here for fundraiser info Click here to sign up for the social after! Parents and family are invited to join in the runathon or encouraged to help with healthy snacks/drinks or with lap counting or music and general support. See the following link if interested in helping sign up for helping us out. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1qvWBf0GnMje-E8G43IWbzk9h0UsrZ3VYIf0PiseZnFA/edit#gid=0 Parents/Families are invited to meet up after around 7:30 p.m. to socialize and get to know each other better. Talked with the site on Becher that is now open, they will love to have us. I want to keep it around 40-50 people. Mr. Lutz said he could make a cheese platter for us. Parent/Team Meeting on Tuesday @ 6:00 p.m. in Hale Cafeteria - All athletes should attend! I will go over are philosophy of 'build' and our team standards, as well as information and ways that parents can get involved. Having the athletes here is important as we continue to share our team messages consistently and so they can be on the same page with our 2019 season. In an effort to save paper, and because it's a lot of detail, I have an electronic version of our parent letter. Feel free to print your own copy and bring it, otherwise use the emailed or linked versions. I will have a limited supply on hand. Below is the letter, and linked within it is our 'Build' philosophy of creating a loving team that does things differently. I'm VERY invested in these concepts and this will be a big daily process for the coaches and athletes to focus on. Parent Letter Fan shirt orders will also be discussed at the meeting, along with our team store reopening for a short time! Fan shirt order form 2019 Alex White is hosting the last Saturday summer run of 2019! His address is 1131 S. 119th St. Oh and if you want to download and print our ridiculous 2019 XC schedule, here's the photo to upload to walgreens or elsewhere. 2019 Team Schedule Photo Our coaches and athletes are excited for an amazing season with many continuing to build off of some solid summer runs together!
